FAQs
Choosing a Generator
What size generator do I need for my business?
The right generator size depends on your total power needs. Start by listing the equipment or systems you want to power, then calculate their combined wattage. Commercial generators are ideal for offices, retail, and light industrial use, while industrial generators handle heavy-duty power loads for manufacturing plants or large facilities.
What types of commercial generators are available?
Generators vary by fuel type (diesel, natural gas, propane, or dual-fuel) and design (portable, standby, or towable). The best option depends on your application—whether you need backup power during outages or continuous power for operations.
Should I choose diesel or natural gas?
Diesel generators offer higher efficiency and durability, making them great for heavy-duty use. Natural gas units are cleaner, quieter, and often ideal for long-term standby use in urban settings.
Installation and Safety
How far should a generator be from my building?
Local building codes vary, but most require at least 5 feet of clearance from structures and openings like doors or windows. For example, Generac recommends 18 inches from the back of the unit to a wall and 5 feet from the generator to any overhead structures. Always confirm with your installer and local regulations.
What safety precautions should I follow?
- Install carbon monoxide alarms indoors.
- Keep the generator away from vents, doors, and windows.
- Never operate a generator indoors or in enclosed spaces.
- Allow the unit to cool before refueling or performing maintenance.
Do I need a professional to install my generator?
Yes. A licensed electrician or certified installer ensures proper wiring, grounding, and compliance with local codes—helping you avoid warranty issues and safety risks.
Maintenance and Troubleshooting
How often should I service my commercial generator?
Follow the manufacturer’s maintenance schedule—typically every 6 months or after every 100–200 hoursof operation. Routine checks include oil changes, air filter replacement, and fuel system inspection.
What are common generator problems?
Some frequent issues include:
- Battery failure or low charge
- Fuel contamination or leaks
- Control panel faults
- Low coolant or oil levels
How should I store my generator when not in use?
Clean the unit, drain old fuel (if applicable), and store it in a dry, ventilated area away from moisture and direct sunlight. Protecting it with a cover prevents dust and corrosion.
Shipping
How Will My Products Ship?
Orders are shipped using a variety of methods, depending on the product type and weight. Items may ship directly from our warehouse or straight from the manufacturer. In general, packages over 100 pounds are shipped via freight, while smaller items are sent through standard ground delivery. Understanding these shipping methods ensures you’re prepared for any delivery requirements, such as scheduling or liftgate service for larger items.
What is Liftgate Service?
Liftgate service is an optional delivery feature used for large or heavy shipments typically those delivered by freight truck.
A liftgate is a hydraulic platform attached to the back of a delivery truck that lowers heavy items from the truck bed down to the ground.
If you don’t have a loading dock, forklift, or extra help on-site, liftgate service ensures your product can be safely unloaded at curbside. It’s especially useful for residential deliveries or small businesses without freight-handling equipment.
